Odessa, Russia’s next target port city in Ukraine, president says bombing preparations

Russia’s military is preparing to step up its offensive in Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has claimed that Russian forces are preparing for a bombing in the port city of Odessa. A day earlier, Russian troops blew up a bridge in Odessa on Saturday. Earlier, Russian forces targeted the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, and Kharkiv.

On Saturday, Zelensky claimed that Ukrainian forces were in control of major cities in the country’s central and southeast, while Russian forces were trying to blockade Kharkiv, Nikolayev, Chernihiv and Sumi. “We’re doing the occupiers a loss they haven’t seen in their worst time,” Zelensky said.


Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky claimed during talks with U.S. lawmakers on Saturday that Russian forces had seized two of Ukraine’s nuclear facilities and were moving toward a third plant. Zelensky says the Yuzhno-Ukraine nuclear power plant, about 120 kilometers north of Mykolaiv, is currently at risk.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has appealed to US lawmakers to impose sanctions on Russia’s oil and gas sector and to abolish credit card facilities. In South Carolina, Republican leader Lindsay Graham said in a private conversation with U.S. lawmakers on Saturday that she had stressed the need for sanctions in the energy sector.
