New York, Sep 11 (AP) On Saturday, the anniversary of 9/11 in New York, US, the program began with the ringing of bells and a few moments of silence at Ground Zero (where the building was destroyed in the terrorist attack). Exactly 20 years ago today, the deadliest terrorist attack on American soil began. President Joe Biden, former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, members of Congress, other celebrities and families of victims gather at New York’s September 11 Memorial Plaza.

The monument is built on the same spot where the two multi-storey buildings of the World Trade Center were demolished by terrorists after colliding with hijacked planes.

Events have also been held at the Pentagon and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, where two other planes hijacked by 9/11 conspirators fell. President Biden is scheduled to pay tribute at all three locations, while former President George W Bush will address an event in Pennsylvania.
