Next UN meeting this month to draft Syria’s constitution

United Nations, Sep 28 (AP) Invitations have been issued for the sixth meeting of the committee set up to draft a new constitution in the conflict-hit country, Geir Pedersen, the UN special envoy to Syria, announced on Tuesday.

After five previous meetings of the Syrian government, the opposition and civil society failed, Pedersen told the UN Security Council, “Now we should all hope that the Constitution Committee will start working seriously on the process of drafting the constitution.” .”

He said the 45-member drafting committee would meet in Geneva from October 18 and a day before that the co-chairs of the government and opposition would meet with him for the first time to make preparations.
