Jaishankar meets foreign ministers of France, Iran at UN

United Nations, Sep 21 (PTI) External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday met his French and Iranian counterparts and held talks on contemporary issues including the Afghan crisis and the Indo-Pacific region.

Jaishankar is here to attend the high-level 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly. He started the day by holding a meeting with India’s strategic partner France.

He met French Foreign Minister Jean Y Le Drian and had extensive discussions on Afghanistan, the Indo-Pacific region and other contemporary issues.

Jaishankar said in a tweet, “Started the day with our strategic partner France. Had extensive discussions with Foreign Minister JY Le Drian on Afghanistan, Indo-Pacific and other contemporary issues.

The foreign minister said in a tweet that he met Iranian Foreign Minister H Amir Abdullahiyan and held talks on strengthening bilateral cooperation. He said the two countries held talks on strengthening bilateral cooperation.

Jaishankar and senior Indian officials arrived in New York on Monday to attend the annual high-level session of the United Nations General Assembly. He will meet his counterparts from several countries this week and will take part in the G20 meeting.
