Five killed, many injured in shooting at Russian university

Moscow, Sep 20 (AP) A gunman opened fire at a university in the Russian city of Perm on Monday morning, killing five people and wounding six others. The Russian Investigative Committee gave this information.

According to the Ministry of Health of the Perm region, 14 people have been injured. The different figures coming about the injured could not be reconciled at the moment.

According to the Perm State University Press Service, the unidentified offender used a non-lethal gun. University students and staff locked themselves in rooms, and the university urged those who were in a position to leave the campus.

Russia’s Interior Ministry said the gunman was later taken into custody. After the incident, the inquiry committee has started investigation into the murder.

The state-run Tass news agency, citing an unnamed legal source, said some students jumped out of the windows of a building. According to the regional health ministry, the injured suffered gunshot wounds and tried to escape from the building.
