blow to hopes
There was hope of getting rid of Kovid-19 in America this summer, but hope seems to be getting a setback. President Joe Biden held a party at the White House on July 4 to celebrate the country’s independence from the virus, more than six months after the US vaccination campaign began.
Dr Stan Vermund of the Yale School of Public Health said the spread of the more contagious Delta version of the virus is increasing this summer. The crisis escalated rapidly from June to August. There were about 4,00,000 cases of Kovid-19 throughout June. It took just three days last week to reach the same number.
The US reported 26,800 deaths in August and over 42 lakh cases. The US now has an average of more than 150,000 new cases per day, which has never been more since January. There are about 1,500 deaths per day.
