Will the game of the opposition be spoiled by pulses and oil? BJP can benefit from these steps of Yogi government in UP

The measures taken regarding Corona in Uttar Pradesh can benefit the Bharatiya Janata Party in the assembly elections to be held next year. The relief measures aimed at mitigating the impact of Corona have opened a new window of opportunity for the Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh to instil a positive sentiment towards the BJP ahead of the assembly elections. In fact, under the PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana scheme, the Yogi government will now give wheat, rice along with pulses, oil and sugar for free till March next year.

Just before the assembly elections, the Yogi government will give free ration to the poor badly affected by the second wave of Kovid in Uttar Pradesh and smartphones and tablets for online education will also be given by the state government on a large scale. Extended the service of free ration under the Kalyan Anna Yojana till March next year and also announced the addition of wheat-chavar as well as oil, pulses and salt in the relief package. The Yogi government said that the state will bear its entire expenditure.

Families falling below the poverty line (Antyodaya card holders and priority families) can take advantage of the extended scheme. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced that 35 kg of rice, wheat along with pulses, oil and salt will also be given in ration to the Antyodaya card holders. Antyodaya card holders will also get sugar every month. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath made this announcement during Deepotsav in Ayodhya. 15 crore people will benefit from this scheme. If election analysts are to be believed, while the BJP will benefit from these steps of the Yogi government, the game of opposition parties looking to return to power may worsen.

So far, under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Anna Kalyan Yojana, it is being given from April 2020 to November 2020 and then from May 2021 to November. That is, till now a total of 12 months free ration has been distributed. In this, three kg of wheat, two kg of rice are given. The state government is planning to run this scheme from its own resources till March 2022. The state government will add 1 kg of pulses, 1 liter of oil and a packet of salt to it. It is believed that this announcement of the Yogi government will create a positive feeling towards the BJP among the poor sections and its effect can be seen in the elections.

According to the Price Monitoring Cell of the Central Consumer Affairs Department, the retail price of packaged mustard oil has increased by over 43% to Rs 187 per kg in the last one year. If seen from this perspective, the poor will get relief if they get oil from the Yogi government. Similarly, by the end of November, the UP government will also distribute tablets and smartphones to students enrolled in various teaching/training programs such as undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma and skill development. It is being told that one crore tablets/smartphones will be distributed to the poor youth, for which the state will spend ₹3,000 crore.

By providing all these to the students who were inconvenienced due to Corona pandemic and who could not buy laptop-smartphone due to paucity of money, Yogi government can be successful in attracting them towards BJP in a way. Yogi Adityanath had said in Sultanpur that the state government is dedicated to providing employment to the youth without any discrimination. We had seen the difficulties faced by school and college going youth during COVID-19, so we decided that we will distribute smartphones and tablets.
