When the orange seller reached the President to receive the Padma Shri barefoot, the Durbar Hall resonated with applause

President Ram Nath Kovind distributed the award among this year’s Padma awardees. During this, when the orange vendors of Karnataka reached near the President to take their respect, the entire hall erupted with applause. Harekala Hajba had reached the President barefoot and wearing simple clothes.

President Kovind today presented the Padma Shri for Harekala Hajba social work. An orange vendor from Mangalore, Karnataka saved money from his business to build a school in his village.

They sell oranges in Harekala village, about 40 km from Mangalore city. He saved money from his business and built a school for the children of the village. Harkela’s education could not be done because there was no school in the village. So he got a school built in his village. He started this effort in the year 1995. In 2000, Harekala Hajba invested all his savings and started a school on one acre of land.

Let us tell you that after the country’s highest honor Bharat Ratna, the country’s highest civilian honor Padma awards were distributed at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday. The Padma award ceremony was held in a grand ceremony at the historic Durbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhavan. During this, politicians like Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley were posthumously awarded the Padma Vibhushan.

141 people who have done outstanding work in various fields were honored today for the year 2020. On Tuesday i.e. tomorrow for 2021, 119 people will be honored with Padma awards. President Ram Nath Kovind presented the award to Bansuri Swaraj, daughter of Sushma Swaraj. PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Vice President Venkaiah Naidu also attended the award ceremony.
