23 people have died and dozens were injured when a metro line collapsed in Mexico City, the capital of Mexico. The incident took place on Monday evening when traffic was passing under the metro line and the track suddenly collapsed. This whole incident was recorded in a CCTV camera, the footage of which is going viral on social media. Mexico City Mayor Claudia Sheinbom said 23 people died in the incident. The city’s Civil Defense Department has said on Twitter that about 70 people have also been badly injured in the accident.

Rescue work is currently going on at the scene of the incident. Some people are also feared trapped under the debris, who are trying to get them out. A car has also been found from the wreckage. In the video being circulated on social media, it can be seen that the coaches of the metro rail are hanging in the air. Sirens are ringing around the scene and crowds are gathering. It can be seen in the footage aired by Milenio TV that even the cars standing below have been hit by the bridge falling damaged. In another video, emergency medical staff and fire fighters can be seen searching for survivors from under the rubble at the scene.

This metro line was constructed when Foreign Minister Marcello Eberard was Mayor of Mexico City. Eberard said on Twitter that whatever has happened to the metro today is a very sad incident. This accident happened in such a hurry that people did not get the time to react. After this accident, the construction and strengthening of the elevated track of the metro has also been questioned. The injured have been admitted to different hospitals for treatment. This accident happened in Mexico at a time when the entire country is facing the Corona crisis.
