Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Tuesday appealed to people to give up junk food and follow traditional Indian food habits to maintain good health. Speaking at an event here, Naidu said, “…Give up junk food. Eat traditional, local food. Our ancestors have suggested, adopted, promoted and given us so many good things to eat and drink. I am in Karnataka and I don’t need to tell you the variety of food here. Some of them have become famous in the world today.
The Vice President questioned why we run after junk food like pizza and burger when we have our own traditional food. He said that they (junkfoods) may be suitable for certain countries but they are not suitable for the Indian situation. Unfortunately, we started adopting the West and westernization, this weakness has developed in some of our children. He said that junk food has become popular due to branding and marketing by companies. Chicken Manchurian… when we have our own biryani then why Manchurian…? Kids these days look for Chicken 65, while we have Karnataka Ragi Mudde (Ragi Ball) and Naatu Kodi Pulusu (Country Chicken Curry) is fantastic, enjoy it, why chase someone else?
He said that please follow Indian food, traditional food and organic food for your health, because health is health. The Vice President was addressing a program related to India’s Vaccination, organized by the Planning Department and Give India Foundation, Karnataka. Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot and Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai were also present on the occasion.
He said that I would like to tell the people that this (Kovid) is not gone yet, so do not be careless. Everyone has to be more careful as there is a risk of third wave. We have to be alert and follow the rules issued from time to time by the Government of India, State and Medical experts.
