In India, the first dose of the vaccine has been administered to about ten percent of the population at present. The pace of vaccination in the country is so slow that it will take at least 117 days to deliver the first dose to the next ten percent of the population. The Reuters vaccination tracker is claiming something similar. Accordingly, there has been a significant decrease in the pace of vaccination in the last week.
Complete immunization of less than two percent Indians
In India, 9.3 percent of the population has received the first dose of Kovid-19 vaccine. At the same time, the number of people who have been fully vaccinated with both doses has not even touched the figure of two per cent.
35% slow pace of vaccination
According to Reuters, an average of 2337141 vaccines were administered daily in India last week. However, the rate was 35% lower than the fastest weekly vaccination rate in the country. On this basis, Reuters mathematical model estimates that it will take 117 days for India to deliver the first dose of vaccine to the next ten percent of the population.
Vaccine deficiency will be complete after July
There is not enough vaccine available in India at this time. Honor Poonawala of Serum Institute of India, the largest vaccine manufacturer, has said that the vaccine supply crisis in the country will continue till July.
11 million doses will be received in may
Poonawala said that he received an order of 26 crore doses of Kovishield from the Government of India. Out of this, 15 crore doses have been given. The remaining 11 crore doses will also be sent to the central government in May. In addition, 11 crore more doses are to be received by states and private hospitals.
Capacity will increase after July
Poonawala said in a recent interview that he had not received any orders from the Government of India to purchase the vaccine, so he thought that the institute had to make one billion doses in a year. For this reason, the capacity to manufacture vaccines was not enhanced. The company’s current production capacity of covishield is six to seven crore doses per month, which will be increased to ten crore per month. The work is expected to be completed by July.
