Turkey is not deterring even after facing strong opposition from India for commenting on the issue of Kashmir. Once again Turkey has mentioned Kashmir in its speech at the United Nations. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan once again raised the issue of Kashmir in his address to global leaders at a high-level session of the United Nations General Assembly. Last year too, Erdoan referred to Jammu and Kashmir in his pre-recorded statement for general discussion. India at the time called it “totally unacceptable” and said Turkey should respect the sovereignty of other nations and take a deep look at its policies.
“We maintain our position in favor of resolving the 74-year-old problem in Kashmir through dialogue between the parties and within the framework of relevant UN resolutions,” Erdogan said in his address at the General Discussion on Tuesday. ‘ The President of Turkey, a close ally of Pakistan, has repeatedly raised the issue of Kashmir in his address at the high-level general discussion. He also raised the issue of Kashmir during his visit to Pakistan last year. At the time, the Foreign Ministry had said that Erdoan’s remarks reflect neither an understanding of history nor the conduct of diplomacy and that it would have a profound impact on India’s relations with Turkey.
India has rejected Turkey’s repeated attempts to justify cross-border terrorism “obviously perpetrated” by Pakistan. In his address on Tuesday, the Turkish president also mentioned China’s minority Muslim Uighurs and Myanmar’s Rohingya minorities in Xinjiang. Erdogan said that in the context of China’s territorial integrity, we believe that there is a need to demonstrate more efforts regarding the protection of the fundamental rights of Muslim Uighur Turks. “We also support ensuring the safe, voluntary, dignified return of Rohingya Muslims to their homeland, who are living in difficult conditions in camps in Bangladesh and Myanmar,” he said.
What is Turkey trying to prove by commenting on Kashmir?
In fact, Turkey has often expressed its opinion on many issues including Kashmir. On the one hand, Saudi Arabia has been neutral on this issue, but Turkey has been raising the issue of Kashmir for the last few years in the name of the leadership of the Muslim world. In fact, Turkey wants to present itself as a leader in the Muslim world compared to Saudi Arabia. In the last few years, the relations of Pakistan have weakened with Saudi Arabia on the one hand, and on the other hand, they have improved with Turkey. This is also one of the reasons why Turkey has often commented on the issue of Kashmir.
