According to the new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) issued by the Municipal Corporation in Guwahati, Assam, now people of opposite sex can not get massage in spas, salons and beauty parlors. Along with this, it has also been said in the new rules that there cannot be separate rooms for massage at these places and the main gate continues to be transparent.
Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) Commissioner Devashish Sharma issued new guidelines on Saturday. According to him, the new guidelines are being implemented after receiving complaints about unethical practices being practiced in unisex salons, beauty parlors and spas.
As per the new rules, there will be no separate rooms in Guwahati’s parlors and spas, the main gate will have to be transparent and people of the opposite sex cannot offer massage services. Although steam baths are permitted, parlors and spas will be required to enter the address and contact numbers of their customers.
“We have received a lot of complaints from several apartment dwellers that unregistered massage parlors and spas are being run in their premises, following which we have decided to take this action,” Sharma said. He said that some complaints were found to be true. He said that about 60 per cent parlors and spas in Guwahati are not registered and are running illegally.
Sharma said, “We are not doing moral policing but these spas and parlors will have to be registered so that filth does not spread in the society. Those shops which are running according to the law need not fear. The GMC has given parlors and spas a month’s time to comply with the new rules. The license of those who violate the rules will not be renewed.
