Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated a museum in Ranchi, Jharkhand in the memory of tribal freedom fighter Birsa Munda through video-conferencing. On this occasion, he said, “Jharkhand came into existence because of the strong will of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. It was he who had created a separate Ministry of Tribal Affairs and linked tribal interests with the policies of the nation. Today, on Jharkhand Foundation Day, I also pay tribute to Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

“I have spent a major part of my life with tribal brothers and sisters and children. I have been a witness to their joys and sorrows, their daily lives and the necessities of their lives. So, today is an emotional day for me personally as well.

Speaking on the occasion, he said, “The nation has decided that during the ‘elixir of independence’, tribal traditions and their heroic tales will be given more grand recognition. A historic decision has been taken that November 15 – the birth anniversary of Lord Birsa Munda – will be observed as ‘Tribal Pride Day’.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to freedom fighter Birsa Munda on his birth anniversary on Monday. Modi tweeted, “A respectful tribute to Lord Birsa Munda ji on his birth anniversary. Along with giving a sharp edge to the freedom movement, he always struggled to protect the interests of the tribal society. His contribution to the country will always be remembered.

The government has announced to observe Munda’s birth anniversary as ‘Tribal Pride Day’.

Birsa Munda was born in the tribal region of undivided Bihar in 1875. He mobilized the tribals against the British colonial rule and conversion activities. He died in the Ranchi Jail in 1900. Modi also greeted the people of Jharkhand on the occasion of State Foundation Day. He said, “Many wishes to all the residents of Jharkhand on the State Foundation Day. This land of Lord Birsa Munda, who has a historical identity with its unique culture, should move forward in the journey of development.
