The very next day after the two MLAs left the Congress, Sonia Gandhi called a meeting of the leaders of this state.


Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday met leaders of Manipur at her residence in the national capital and discussed the political situation in the state. All India Congress Committee (AICC) Manipur in-charge Bhakta Charan Das while talking to ANI said that the meeting was regarding Manipur elections.

He said, “We discussed the political situation in Manipur and the upcoming elections with Sonia Gandhi. Everyone gave their point of view and it was listed by the high command. Everyone presented their views, they had long discussions with senior leaders. ” The Congress leader said the meeting was very cordial.

40 minute meeting


The meeting lasted for about 40 minutes and the overall political situation was briefly discussed in the meeting. Asked whether Rahul Gandhi was also present, Das said the meeting was presided over by interim president Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi was not there.

Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader, working president, several other MLAs, senior observer Jairam Ramesh and AICC in-charge Bhakta Charan Das were present in the meeting. Elections are to be held in the state next year. Manipur has 60 assembly seats and the BJP is currently in power.

Many more MLAs may leave Congress

The challenges for the Congress in Manipur are increasing. One after the other its MLAs are joining the BJP. Recently, MLAs Rajkumar Imo Singh and Yanthong Hookip joined the BJP. But this cycle is not going to stop there. The party believes that now more MLAs can leave together.
