The post was done on the support of the Taliban, the police arrested 15 people

Police have arrested 14 people from different areas of Assam for allegedly supporting Taliban occupation of Afghanistan on social media. The arrest was made on Friday night. They were booked under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, IT Act and CrPC.

Two persons each were arrested from Kamrup (Rural), Barpeta and Dhubri districts, police said on Saturday. At the same time, one person each was arrested from Darrang, South Salmara, Gowalpara and Hojai districts. Four people were arrested from three districts of Barak Valley. Two people have been arrested from Karimganj and one person each from two other districts.


Deputy Inspector General Violet Barua said, “We are on alert. Monitoring social media for objectionable posts. Assam Police is taking stern action against those making pro-Taliban remarks on social media. “We are registering criminal cases against such people,” he tweeted. If you come across anything like this, please contact the police.

Assam’s Special Director General of Police GP Singh also tweeted and advised people to beware of inflammatory social media posts. People can face penal action for retweeting and liking such posts on social media.
