On Wednesday, the Anti-Corruption Branch of the CIB raided the premises of several businessmen close to Anup Majhi alias Lala. Majhi is the alleged kingpin of the illegal coal trade cycle in the Asansol-Raniganj region of West Bengal. Sources in the company said that the authorities raided 10 places of these traders including their offices and houses. The CBI believes that the illegal mining scandal involving Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) has resulted in the extraction of thousands of crores of coal and related money through hawal, which has prompted the Enforcement Director to launch an investigation.

On Monday, the ED also raided 12 places near West Bengal. After filing a case against Manji on November 26 last year, the CBI conducted a massive search in 45 places in four states. It is alleged that the boatman, along with three ECL security personnel and two general managers, carried out the scam.
