Take back Padma Shri from Kangana, Ranaut surrounded by ‘freedom in begging’ statement

Recently, a controversy has started after Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut, who was awarded the Padma Shri award, begged for the freedom she got in 1947. After social media, now many party leaders have started opposing Kangana Ranaut in unison. All the leaders have demanded the President and the government to withdraw the Padma Shri award.

In an interview given to a channel, Kangana Ranaut had said that the freedom got in 1947 was begging, the real freedom came only after 2014, when the reins of the country came in the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Kangana Ranaut’s statement is being condemned across the country. Senior Congress leader Anand Sharma termed the statement as shocking and outrageous. They have demanded President Ram Nath Kovind to take back her (Kangana Ranaut) Padma Shri.

Anand Sharma said, “Kangana Ranaut’s statement is an insult to the great courageous freedom fighters who were led by Mahatma Gandhi, Nehru and Sardar Patel. Not only this, his statement also reduces the sacrifice of Sardar Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad and many other revolutionaries.

He said that before giving such awards, a psycho-medical evaluation of the awardee should be done so that such persons do not disrespect the nation and its heroes. On the other hand, former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda called Kangana’s statement absurd.

At the same time, Jitan Ram Manjhi, president of Hindustani Awam Morcha, which has an alliance with NDA in Bihar, said that all news channels should start boycotting Kangana Ranaut from now on.

Manjhi requested the President that the Padma Shri given to Kangana Ranaut should be withdrawn immediately. Otherwise the world will think that Gandhi, Nehru, Patel, Bhagat Singh, Kalam, Mukherjee, Savarkar begged for freedom.

Shiv Sena leader Neelam Gorhe said that Kangana Ranaut should be charged with sedition for calling India’s independence as ‘alms’. The Shiv Sena leader said, along with sedition, his Padma award should also be cancelled. At the same time, the Aam Aadmi Party has given an application to the Mumbai Police and demanded registration of a case against Kangana Ranaut. AAP’s national executive member Preeti Sharma Menon termed the actress’ remarks as “seditious and provocative”.

Not only this, there has also been a reaction from the BJP on Kangana Ranaut’s statement. Lok Sabha MP Varun Gandhi shared Kangana Ranaut’s video on social media asking, “Should I call it madness or sedition”.

Varun Gandhi had tweeted, “Sometimes an insult to Mahatma Gandhi’s sacrifice and penance, sometimes an honor to his (Mahatma Gandhi’s) killer, and now an insult to the sacrifices of lakhs of freedom fighters – from Shaheed Mangal Pandey to Rani Laxmibai, Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad, to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. Should I call it madness or sedition?”
