The BJP has accused the Congress of “committing a sin” after the party leader’s alleged remarks about Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel during the Congress Working Committee meeting. The Congress Working Committee meeting was held on 16 October. Citing a media report, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra questioned whether Sonia Gandhi and Rahul would take action against their leader Tariq Hamid Karra for making anti-Patel statements.

During the press conference, Sambit Patra said, ‘Tariq Hamid Karra said that it was Jawaharlal Nehru who connected Jammu and Kashmir with India, while Sarkar Patel did everything possible to stop it.’ After this, Patra also asked whether Sonia and Rahul Gandhi had objected to the insult of Sardar Patel.

Describing Karra’s behavior during the CWC as sycophantic, Sambit Patra said, “He himself hails from Jammu and Kashmir and his only motive was to install Rahul Gandhi as the next president of Congress.” That’s why he glorified the Gandhi family. One family did everything and the rest did nothing. How can Congress have such mentality?

Patra further said, ‘This proved that the Grand Old Party (Congress) would insult the national heroes to uplift the legacy of the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty.’ Let us inform that former PDP leader Karra had joined the Congress in the year 2017. Karra, a former MP from the Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency, is the first leader from the Valley to be nominated as a member of the Congress CWC.

What did Karra say?

Praising Jawaharlal Nehru, Karra hit out at Sardar Patel by saying that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are in India only because of Nehru. He said Patel stood with Jinnah in handing over Jammu and Kashmir to Pakistan. However, some members of the CWC intervened on Karra’s point of view. Remind them that Patel was a former Congress President who contributed to the integration of India.
