TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said MPs were unable to act as the agency’s president. He said, “Shishir Da is an experienced leader. Maybe he is ill. But when he was his sons Shuvendu and Soumendu, who have been continuously attacking the TMC since joining the BJP, we were offended by not speaking out against them.” The minister, Firhad Hakim, however, claimed that top officials would be re-appointed as DSDA chairman “as soon as they recover from their illness”.

Shishir Adhikari said of the development, “He can do whatever he wants. I don’t think so.” BJP national vice-president Mukul Roy said Shishir could join the BJP if he wanted. He is a veteran leader. Shuvendu joined the BJP last month. His brother Soumendu also helped change the party after Kanti was removed from the post of municipal administrator.
