Shivraj Singh took a jibe on Punjab Congress crisis, said – as long as Rahul Gandhi is there, BJP should not do anything

First Navjot Singh’s resignation from the post of Punjab Congress Committee President and now former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh’s meeting with the Home Minister in Delhi, Punjab politics as if there was an earthquake. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan took a jibe at the Congress crisis in Punjab, saying Rahul Gandhi is drowning the Congress and as long as he is, the BJP has nothing to do.

During a rally in Prithvipur, Madhya Pradesh, he said, “Rahul Gandhi is sinking the Congress. A well-established Punjab government has been toppled. Captain Amarinder was sacked because of Sidhu. Now Sidhu also fled. We have nothing to do as long as Rahul Gandhi is there.”

Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s remarks came on a day former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh met Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence in New Delhi on Wednesday. This intensified speculation about his future plans ahead of the assembly elections in Punjab.

After Captain Amarinder Singh resigned as Chief Minister, he had said that the Congress leadership had humiliated him. Today he met Amit Shah in Delhi. The Captain, however, said that he met Amit Shah to discuss agricultural laws. Reports say that the former Punjab Chief Minister has also discussed the internal security situation in Punjab with Amit Shah.

Amarinder Singh believes that the instability in Punjab may give Pakistan an opportunity to create unrest in the border state. He also accused Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu of being close to Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Why did Navjot Singh Sidhu resign?

According to reports, Navjot Singh Sidhu was looking at himself as the next CM of Punjab after Amarinder Singh stepped down as CM. However, the Congress high command disappointed him. Charanjit Singh Channi was made the first Dalit CM of Punjab. Sources say that he had not met the Gandhi family before taking the decision to step down. He also had issues with the inclusion of “tainted” former minister Rana Gurjit Singh in the Punjab cabinet led by Charanjit Singh Channi.

Navjot Singh Sidhu may be trying to pacify, but he released a video today making it clear that he is in no mood to deviate from his “principles”. In the clip released in Punjabi, he can also be heard saying that he has resigned over the inclusion of “tainted” people in the new Charanjit Singh Channi government. Sidhu is currently in Patiala and is at his home. Congress leaders of the state met him and demanded to change his decision, but he was not ready.

Congress’s deepening crisis in Punjab

Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal also reached Punjab on a two-day visit and described the recent developments in Punjab as a ‘tamasha’. But he supported Navjot Singh Sidhu’s stand asking Charanjit Singh Channi to weed out the “tainted” people and fulfill the promises made by his predecessor.

Some observers say that Navjot Singh Sidhu is angry because Charanjit Singh Channi is now taking his own decisions. Channi approaches Sidhu. Invited the former cricketer for talks and said that the party is supreme and not the government. The party’s central leadership in Delhi remained silent on the developments in Punjab and a spokesperson only said that AICC in-charge of the state Harish Rawat is keeping a watch.
