Sangma met Rahul to resolve ‘differences’ in Meghalaya Congress, Vincent Pala also accompanied him

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday met former Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma and State Congress President Vincent H Pala. With this, the party appears to have averted a crisis in its Meghalaya unit ahead of the bypolls to three assembly seats in the state. It is understood that all was not going well between him and former Chief Minister and Congress Legislature Party leader Mukul M Sangma after Vincent H. Pala was made the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee chief.

Sangma had also said that the party leadership did not consult him on Pala’s appointment. There was also speculation that Sangma might join the Trinamool Congress. However, the two leaders came together on Saturday and decided to work together for the upcoming by-polls.

Congress said, “Rahul Gandhi met Meghalaya Congress President Vincent Pala and Congress Legislature Party leader Mukul Sangma in-charge of Meghalaya Manish Chatrath and AICC General Secretary K. C Venugopal at his residence.” He also shared pictures of the leaders together after the meeting.

Meanwhile, the Congress has finalized its candidates for the upcoming by-elections in Meghalaya. Congress has fielded Highlander Kharmalki from Mawringneng-ST constituency, Kennedy C Krim from Mawphlang-ST constituency and Hasina Yasmin Mandal from Rajbala constituency.
