‘Rail Roko’ movement of farmers affected 130 places, movement of 50 trains stopped

Farmers in Punjab and Haryana on Monday morning as part of a six-hour ‘Rail Roko’ agitation by the United Kisan Morcha demanding the sacking and arrest of Union Minister Ajay Mishra in connection with the violence at Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh. Rail traffic was affected at some places in Rajasthan and Haryana in North Western Railway. In these two states, 2 trains were canceled and 13 trains were partially cancelled. Also a train had to be diverted due to the demonstration.

The trains which have been affected in the Northern Railway zone include Chandigarh-Firozpur Express. This train was to leave from Ludhiana at 7 am, but officials said that this train is still standing on Firozpur-Ludhiana. The New Delhi-Amritsar Shatabdi Express also had to be stopped at Shambhu station due to protesters.

Farmers demonstrated on the railway track in Hanumangarh and raised slogans against the Center and the Uttar Pradesh government. In Jaipur, the members of the Front demonstrated outside the Jaipur Junction. “We were not allowed to enter Jaipur Junction, so we staged a dharna at the entrance itself,” said Sanjay Madhav, state joint secretary of the front.

Rail traffic has been affected in Hanumangarh and Ganganagar districts of Rajasthan due to the agitation. According to Captain Shashi Kiran, Chief Public Relations Officer of North Western Railway, due to the farmers agitation, Bhiwani-Rewari, Sirsa-Rewari, Loharu-Hisar, Suratgarh-Bathinda, Sirsa-Bathinda Hanumangarh-Bathinda, Rohtak-Bhiwani, Rewari-Sadulpur, Hisar Rail traffic has been affected between Bathinda, Hanumangarh-Sadulpur and Sri Ganganagar-Rewari sections. He said that due to the agitation, the Bathinda-Rewari special train service and the Sirsa-Ludhiana special train service were canceled on Monday. At least 13 trains have been partially cancelled. While some trains are being run by changing the route.
