Punjab’s drama over, now Rajasthan’s turn? Rahul Gandhi and Sachin Pilot’s marathon meeting intensifies speculation

After the completion of the operation of the Congress in Punjab, now the stir has started intensifying in other states ruled by the party. Meanwhile, on Friday, September 17, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi held marathon meetings with former Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot. According to sources, during this meeting the two leaders discussed the situation in Rajasthan as well as the party’s goals for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Incidentally, the meeting took place just a day before Captain Amarinder Singh resigned from the post of Punjab CM. This was the first such meeting between Rahul Gandhi and Sachin Pilot this year.

Pilot was the President and Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan Congress till July 2020. However, after adopting a rebellious attitude against Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, both these posts were withdrawn from him. According to a party source, during the meeting of Rahul and Sachin, the reinstatement of Pilot in Rajasthan was discussed seriously.

However, a senior party leader said on condition of anonymity that no major reshuffle is expected in Rajasthan at the moment. He said that the entire focus of the party is currently on the upcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Uttarakhand. Elections are to be held in all these states in the first six months of 2022.

Although Sachin Pilot has not made any statement about this meeting yet, two other senior leaders informed that the Congress is keeping in mind the goals of 2024 Lok Sabha elections while reshuffling its state governments.

Another senior Congress leader said, “Rahul Gandhi’s plan is to make changes in the states keeping in mind the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. If there is a change and Pilot returns to the Rajasthan government, it should be seen as a preparation for the Congress for the next general election.

Rajasthan, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh are the only states where Congress is giving direct competition to BJP.
