There is no doubt that the activism of Congress National General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi after the Lakhimpur Kheri violence incident has suddenly caught everyone’s attention. Assembly elections are due in Uttar Pradesh next year. After the Lakhimpur Kheri incident before the elections, the image of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has certainly emerged as an aggressive, belligerent and relentless fighting leader. She is constantly targeting the ruling party Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of UP and not only this, she is also trying to build her image in the state as a brand of Hindutva. The question is whether this aggression of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will prove beneficial for the Congress in the coming days or will it benefit the BJP only.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra reached Lucknow on the night of 3 October after 8 people lost their lives in Lakhimpur Kheri. Here the police of Uttar Pradesh tried to stop them, but they left after giving a ruckus to the policemen. However, about 10 hours later, Priyanka Gandhi was taken into custody in Sitapur, the neighboring district of Lakhimpur.
Priyanka remained in custody for about 60 hours. But during this time she continued to make her presence felt among the public through social media posts. There was a lot of discussion about one of the posts in which she was seen sweeping the floor in the police guest house. It is said that Priyanka Gandhi was released after a phone conversation between UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. After Priyanka Gandhi was released, she sweeped the Dalit settlement and it was also discussed a lot.
After sweeping, he also took a jibe at BJP leaders that they are anti-Dalit. After which Yogi Adityanath had to say that the public wants to make him worthy. In Lakhimpur Kheri, Priyanka Gandhi met the families of the aggrieved farmer. Here he also met the relatives of the journalist killed in the violence. Priyanka Gandhi told the media that she also wants to meet the families of those BJP workers who have lost their lives.
Priyanka Gandhi, who attracted media attention with her aggression and wit, visited Varanasi and also offered prayers at the Kashi Vishwanath temple. Varanasi is also the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
It is clear that after the Lakhimpur violence, the entry of Congress in the politics of UP has been vigorous. Especially the party’s general secretary and in-charge Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is leaving no stone unturned to get the Congress back the lost land in UP. The most advantageous thing for Congress due to Priyanka’s hard work is that Congress is being discussed in the media and public. However, it remains to be seen how sharp the Congress strategy for UP in the next five months will be and how successful the party is in keeping itself in the limelight.
In the year 2017, the Congress contested the elections in alliance with the Samajwadi Party. But this time the situation has changed and the Congress does not have the support of the SP. In such a situation, it is clear that this time Congress is largely dependent on Priyanka Gandhi to sail its boat.
Some political analysts also believe that Priyanka Gandhi’s aggression can also benefit the BJP. In the opinion of analysts, BJP asked Yogi Adityanath to release Priyanka Gandhi as a well-thought-out strategy and he was also given freedom to openly attack the central government over the Lakhimpur Kheri violence incident.
However, despite all the efforts of Priyanka Gandhi, the BJP seems to be in a very strong position in the state, which is not easy for anyone Congress, SP or BSP to beat. In the year 2014, BJP got 43 per cent votes. In the year 2017, the vote share of BJP was 40 per cent. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP got about 50 percent of the votes in UP. While the SP and BSP contested in alliance here, the SP got 18.1 percent and the BSP 19.42 percent votes.
