Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reiterated the resolve of reservation for the poor of Dalit, backward, tribal and general category from the Red Fort. After passing the OBC reservation in NEET and the Constitution Amendment Bill, this announcement of the Prime Minister has increased the challenges of the opposition. Till now the opposition has been supporting every decision of the government regarding OBCs. Despite the government’s impasse on the issue of Pegasus and the farmers, the opposition had to support the constitutional amendment. But the opposition has got an opportunity to counterattack through the caste census.
A senior leader said that the BJP is raising the issue of OBCs in view of the UP assembly elections. But is silent on the issue of caste census. At the same time, many such parties are also supporting the caste census, which have been supporting the government on many occasions.
If the issue of caste census takes hold, the vote bank of the BJP may be shattered. Whose direct political benefit will be given to them. Therefore, many opposition parties are pressurizing the caste based census. At the same time, BJP is completely on the back foot.
The opposition parties know that the BJP’s OBC card can be answered by demanding a caste census. A senior leader said that the Prime Minister is advocating reservation from the Red Fort, so he should not even rule out conducting a caste census.
The census was to be held in the country in 2021, but it was postponed due to the Corona epidemic. The government now wants to start it, but the opposition is trying to surround the government by raising the issue of caste census so that the BJP cannot take advantage of OBC reservation.
