Pochampally village of Telangana got the Best Tourism Village award, was recognized by Vocal for Local


Taking a big decision, the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) on Tuesday awarded Pochampally village in Telangana with the Best Tourism Village. The award for this will be given on the sidelines of the 24th session of the UNWTO General Assembly held in Madrid, Spain on 2 December.

The United Nations World Tourism Organization has included Pochampally village in Telangana as one of the best tourist villages. Union Minister for Culture, Tourism and Development of North Eastern Region, G Kishan Reddy congratulated the people of the village and said, “Under Self-reliant India the unique weaving styles of Pochampally got special attention through Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Vocal for Local. “

G Kishan Reddy said, “On behalf of the people of Pochampally in particular and the people of Telangana, I am grateful that this award has been given to Pochampally village. I am also grateful to the officials of the Ministry for effectively presenting Pochampally village. Am” .


The Best Tourism Villages by UNWTO pilot project aims to reward villages that are excellent examples of rural destinations. Under this, nine areas are evaluated to select the best village.

Explain that the Ministry of Tourism had recommended three villages from India for the UNWTO Best Tourism Village. These included Kongthong village in Meghalaya, Ladhpura Khas village in Madhya Pradesh and Pochampally village in Telangana. Of the three, Pochampally has won the UNWTO Best Tourism Village award.

Pochampally is a town in the Nalgonda district of Telangana, 50 km from Hyderabad. The village is known as the silk city of India for its exquisite sarees. This particular saree is woven through a unique style called Ikat.
