Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for the expansion of two national highways in Maharashtra today. PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for four laning of five sections of Shri Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palkhi Marg (National Highway-965) and three sections of Shri Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palkhi Marg (National Highway-956G) through video conference today. This virtual program of PM Modi is proposed today at 3 pm.
In a statement, the Prime Minister’s Office said that it will be expanded with a view to facilitate the pilgrims visiting Pandharpur. The city of Pandharpur in Maharashtra is associated with Sant Tukaram and Sant Dnyaneshwar. A walkway for Palkhi would be constructed on both sides of these national highways, which would provide easy and safe passage for the pilgrims, the statement said.
According to the statement, about 221 km long Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palkhi Marg from Diveghat to Mohol and about 130 km long highway from Patas to Tondale-Bondale will be made four laning at a cost of Rs 6690 crore and Rs 4400 crore respectively.
Modi will dedicate to the nation over 223 km of completed and upgraded road projects constructed at an estimated cost of over Rs 1180 crore on various national highways to boost connectivity to Pandharpur. Apart from PM Modi, Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray will also be present at the event.
