The Congress party has reiterated the demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) inquiry into the Rafale jet deal with France. Party spokesperson Pawan Khera on Tuesday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of being directly involved in the defense scam.

On Tuesday, Pawan Khera cited French portal Mediapart, which revealed how middleman Sushen Mohan Gupta obtained confidential documents related to the Indian Negotiating Team (INT) from the Defense Ministry in 2015 and then clarified to Dassault Aviation (Rafale). Fixed the price of the aircraft giving profit.

He alleged that the latest revelations in “Operation Cover-up” reveal a suspected nexus between the Modi government-CBI-ED to suppress Rafale corruption. Mediapart in its latest disclosure used alleged fake invoices. Thereby French aircraft maker Dassault Aviation paid at least 7.5 million euros in secret commission to a middleman to help secure the Rafale deal with India.

The report claimed that the commission was paid between 2007 and 2012. At that time the Congress-led UPA government was in power at the Centre. Addressing a press conference, Pawan Khera said that over the years Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and other party leaders have spoken on the issue of “scam” in the Rafale deal and since then many new facts are emerging.

He said that the new facts prove that corruption in the multi-crore Rafale deal reached Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s doorstep. He alleged, “The BJP government has jeopardized and harmed the interests of the Indian Air Force by keeping national security at bay. Thousands of crores of rupees were siphoned off from the treasury of the country.

“We are demanding JPC in this matter. These are new facts, which prove that Prime Minister Narendra Modi played a role in interfering at every step of the deal. Therefore, it is necessary to take the new facts to the court.”
