Parliament’s seal on insolvency bill, Rajya Sabha adjourned for a day


New Delhi (LokSatya). Rajya Sabha today passed the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Amendment) Bill 2021 by voice vote amidst uproar by opposition parties, after which the proceedings of the house were adjourned for the day.

Due to the uproar by the opposition parties, the proceedings of the house were adjourned earlier also till 12 and then till 2 o'clock. As soon as the proceedings of the House began at 2 pm, Deputy Speaker Bhubaneshwar Kalita asked Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to introduce the Bill. Earlier, Congress leader Shaktisinh Gohil put his resolution in the house against the bill. Meanwhile, members of Trinamool Congress came near the premises and started creating ruckus. Congress members also supported him. A very brief discussion was held on the bill amid the uproar after which Sitharaman in her short speech appealed to the House to pass the bill, assuring the members to address the concerns expressed by them and to consider their suggestions.


Amidst uproar, the House rejected the resolution of Congress leader Shaktisinh Gohil and other members rejecting the bill. After this the House passed the bill by voice vote, which got the approval of the Parliament as it has already been passed by the Lok Sabha.

This bill will replace the ordinance brought in this regard in April last. As soon as the bill was passed, Deputy Chairman Bhubaneshwar Kalita appealed to the members shouting slogans near the seat to return to their places and said that two more important bills are yet to come in the House, which are important for the development work in your parliamentary constituencies. Seeing it not having any effect on the members and causing chaos, the Deputy Chairman adjourned the proceedings of the House for the day.
