Pakistan will be tied up, India going to buy 30 lethal drones from America; 21 thousand crores will be spent

India is now quite close to getting 30 Predator drones from the United States. Its been awaited for a long time. A high-level meeting will be held in the Defense Ministry on Monday to discuss the acquisition of about Rs 21,000 crore. According to a report in India Today, top sources in the Defense Ministry have told that the Defense Secretary will preside over the meeting in which senior officials will also attend.

If the acquisition is approved in this meeting, it will be sent to the Defense Acquisition Council headed by the Defense Minister. It will then be sent to the Cabinet Committee on Security for its final approval before the contract is signed.

The drones will be equipped with advanced systems and weapons packages and will enable long-range surveillance and precision strikes. India’s drone shopping list includes the SeaGuardian/SkyGuardian variants of the MQ-9B. Reports say that the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force will get 10 drones each with customized instructions.

The Indian Navy is already using two unarmed Seaguardian drones that it leased from the US last year for surveillance in the Indian Ocean region. The Indian Navy is the lead for the acquisition of these drones.

Under the Defense Acquisition Procedure 2020 and Defense Procurement Rules 2009, provision has been made for leasing of weapon systems. This helps India cut costs, as the responsibility of maintenance lies with the seller.

Over the years, the Indian armed forces have been showing confidence in US systems for surveillance needs. The Indian Navy is already using nine P-8I long-range surveillance aircraft and nine more are expected in the next few years.
