From today 19 opposition parties across the country will protest against the BJP government at the Centre. This protest will continue for the next 11 days i.e. till 30 September. The decision regarding this was taken only during the meeting of Sonia Gandhi convened last month.
During the virtual meeting on August 20, it was agreed between the opposition parties that unity will have to be shown to defeat the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The leaders of these parties had also placed 11 demands in front of the Center. After the meeting, it was told in a joint statement that between September 20 and 30, 19 opposition parties would hold nationwide protests.
Opposition parties had demanded that the government conduct a Supreme Court-monitored probe into the Pegasus case, repeal all three agricultural laws, curb inflation and restore full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. The opposition demanded that a monthly help of Rs 7500 should be given to all the families outside the purview of income tax and free food grains and other items of daily necessities should be provided to the needy.
The opposition parties had said, “The prices of petroleum products, cooking gas, cooking oil and other essential commodities should be reduced. All three anti-farmer laws should be repealed and MSP should be guaranteed. He said that privatization of public sector units should be stopped, labor codes should be repealed and the rights of the working class should be restored.
Opposition parties urged the government, “Incentive package should be given for the MSME sector, vacant government posts should be filled. He said that vaccination of teachers, employees of educational institutions and students should be done on priority basis.
“We condemn the attitude of the central government and the ruling party for disrupting the monsoon session, refusing to discuss or respond to the illegal use of Pegasus military spyware, repeal of all three anti-agriculture laws,” he said.
