After the reduction in tax on petrol and diesel by the central government, BJP ruled states have also reduced VAT. Due to this, the prices of petrol and diesel have come down below Rs 100 in states like UP, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka. Even though the opposition parties are telling it the effect of the setback to the BJP in the by-elections, but the lack of tax deduction in the states ruled by them themselves raises questions. So far, there have been indications of tax cuts only in Punjab. Apart from this, there is no such fragrance in other states. In such a situation, it is clear that on the issue of inflation, now the BJP can start besieging the opposition parties on the contrary.
Rajasthan BJP President Satish Poonia said on Saturday that the Congress government in the state should reduce the Value Added Tax (VAT) on diesel and petrol so that the general public can get relief. Poonia said that if the state government reduces VAT, then people can get this fuel by Rs 10 and cheaper. “The decision of the Modi government to reduce excise duty on diesel and petrol has brought a lot of relief to the common man. Gehlot government should reduce VAT so that people in Rajasthan can get cheap fuel like neighboring states like Punjab and Haryana. Poonia said that the state government should take a decision soon in public interest.
Petrol and diesel is getting costlier in Delhi than UP
He said, ‘Relief should be given to the people by reducing VAT on diesel and petrol. Merely making political statements against the central government will not do anything. In fact, in the neighboring state of Madhya Pradesh, now petrol and diesel have become cheaper. In such a situation, people of marginal districts are coming from Madhya Pradesh itself after getting fuel filled. Similarly, now petrol and diesel are being sold more expensive in Delhi than in Delhi. Generally, everything from CNG to petrol and diesel in Delhi has been cheaper than in UP, but the situation has changed after the tax cut.
Petrol in Madhya Pradesh now cheaper than Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan
Similarly, Madhya Pradesh is getting cheaper oil than Maharashtra. Till a week ago, there were boards of cheap petrol from Madhya Pradesh in the marginal districts of Maharashtra, but now this bet has backfired. Petrol cheaper than Madhya Pradesh was being sold in Gondia of Maharashtra, but now people from there are coming back to Balaghat in Madhya Pradesh. Petrol is getting cheaper by Rs 4 in Madhya Pradesh than in Maharashtra. Apart from this, the situation is also in the adjoining districts of Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh. Here also people from other two states are often seen coming to Madhya Pradesh for petrol.
Kerala’s communist government categorically refused to cut tax
Significantly, the Communist government of Kerala has also refused to reduce taxes on petrol and diesel, saying that it will affect its revenue. The state government says that due to the Corona crisis, its financial condition is not good and it cannot reduce the tax. In such a situation, it will be difficult for communist organizations to make it an issue across the country.
