There is relief news for the passengers traveling in the general coach of the trains. If everything goes well, then passengers can get the pleasure of traveling in AC coach for less money. Because the railway is preparing to convert the general coach into AC compartment. Railways is exploring the option of converting general coaches into AC coaches in long distance trains to provide comfortable travel to those passengers who are not able to pay higher fares.
TOI quoted sources as saying that these AC coaches will have a seating capacity of 100-120 passengers and since common people can travel in these coaches, the fare will be much less. These coaches will be fully reserved and will have self-closing doors. The newspaper quoted sources as saying that the brainstorming session on this plan has started in the Ministry of Railways. The first AC General class coach is likely to be manufactured at Railway Coach Factory in Kapurthala, Punjab.
Although all long distance trains except major trains like Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Vande Bharat had unreserved general coaches before the corona pandemic, now all such coaches run as reserved coaches. Officials said that if common passengers can get a comfortable ride in AC coaches at affordable fares, then it should be the priority of the Railways.
Recently, Railways offered AC economy class coaches with fares lower than AC-3 tier for passengers opting to travel in sleeper class coaches. Railways also introduced the first service of an all-AC economy train. Let us tell you that if the plan of the railway is successful, then the common man can get the pleasure of AC in less money.
