MP: 34 Khargone workers held hostage in Maharashtra, released after video released


About 34 workers from Bamanpuri, Vikarkhedi, Nagjhiri villages of Khargone district went to a merchant in Solapur district of Maharashtra to cut sugarcane.


Thirty-four workers from Khargone district in Madhya Pradesh were released after the administration intervened. It may be mentioned that about 34 workers from Bamanpuri, Vikarkhedi, Nagjhiri village in Khargone district went to work with a businessman from Solapur district in Maharashtra to cut sugarcane. Those who held the farm owner hostage. After receiving allegations of the incident, Barwah SDOP Mansingh Thakur released the workers and returned them to their homes.

Ramesh, a resident of Bamanpuri village in Barwah block of Darshal Khargone district, along with Bamanpuri Sarpanch Nandalal Gurjar came to Barwah police station on January 15 and lodged a complaint with SDOP Mansingh Tagore. Complainant Ramesh said that 15 working families including his daughter-in-law and son and 5 families from Vikarkhedi village went to Solapur in Maharashtra to work for the workers where they were taken hostage.

The complainant also showed the video. SDOP Tagore assured the relatives to take action on the complaint. After the administration’s efforts, about 34 workers, including children, returned safely around 9pm on Sunday. People were happy with the steps taken by the administration. All the workers were tested by Covid-19 and sent home.
