MLA going to BJP, TMC will ‘hurt’ on votes; Congress troubled in Manipur

The challenges for the Congress in Manipur are increasing. One after the other, many of its MLAs are joining the BJP. Recently, MLAs Rajkumar Imo Singh and Yanthong Hookip joined the BJP. But this cycle is not going to stop here. The party believes that now more MLAs can leave together.

A state Congress leader said that the party’s troubles are increasing in the Manipur Assembly elections. Till now, there was a contest between the BJP-led alliance and the Congress. But with the announcement of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) contesting the elections, the contest in many seats can be triangular. The party believes that more than half a dozen MLAs may leave the Congress in Manipur before the elections. The activities of many of these MLAs are against party discipline. Therefore, these MLAs may look for a place in another party before the elections.

After the announcement of the Trinamool Congress to contest the elections in Manipur, the options for the legislators who switched parties have increased. Hence, he is negotiating with BJP and Trinamool. Because, there are many MLAs, for whom it will be difficult to win on BJP ticket. The party says that such MLAs and former MLAs have got a strong option in the form of TMC. In the 2012 assembly elections, TMC had won seven seats. But later its MLAs joined Congress and BJP. In the year 2017, the party could win only one seat.

TMC has once again tried to stand itself in Manipur through Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev. This added to the troubles of the Congress. Because, TMC is attacking Congress after victory in West Bengal. In such a situation, the opposition votes can be divided by contesting the elections of TMC.
