Militants were trained, weapons were also given… Role of Chinese Army under investigation in Manipur attack

The role of the Chinese military in last week’s militant attack in Manipur is under investigation. The Colonel of the Assam Rifles, his wife, son and four other riflemen were martyred in this attack. In a report of News-18, this information has been given quoting sources from the intelligence system.

Two terrorist groups (People’s Liberation Army and Manipur Naga People’s Front) jointly claimed responsibility for Saturday’s attack in Manipur’s Churachandpur district near the Myanmar border.

According to the News-18 report, top intelligence sources have told that the members of the separatist extremist organization PLA are suspected to be trained by the Chinese military in Myanmar camps. They are also likely to be supplied with weapons. Sources said intelligence agencies have seized the drone video footage of the camps near the Manipur border. Top leaders of the Chinese military are expected to be present in these camps.

Intelligence officials said Beijing is reportedly upset over India’s links with anti-China lobbies in Taiwan and Tibet. Inputs in the past have suggested that China is ready to support separatist organizations against India in the Northeast.

“Northeast insurgents have direct links with groups backed by China in Myanmar and their job is to support these groups against India,” a source said.

Sources said Indian agencies fear that insurgent groups in the northeast are also backed by the Myanmar Army, which uses them for routine patrols given the paucity of its own manpower. Sources said that India has informed Myanmar through official channels that these groups are based in Ur Taga areas and they should take action against such organisations.
