Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra has been honored with the Padma Bhushan award. President Ram Nath Kovind honored Anand Mahindra with the Padma Bhushan award at a grand ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday. For the year 2021 also, the President conferred Padma Awards on 119 personalities including seven Padma Vibhushan, 10 Padma Bhushan and 102 Padma Shri awards.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and many others were also present on the occasion. The President posthumously awarded Padma Vibhushan, the country’s second highest civilian honour, to veteran socialist leader and former Defense Minister George Fernandez, former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.
Aniruddha Jugnauth, the former President and Prime Minister of Mauritius, was also decorated with the Padma Vibhushan. Classical singer Channulal Mishra, boxer Mary Kom and late Pejavar Math chief Vishwesha Teertha Swami were also honored with Padma Vibhushan. The Padma Awards are given in three categories, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. These awards are announced every year on the eve of Republic Day. Padma Vibhushan for exceptional and distinguished service, Padma Bhushan for distinguished service of high order and Padma Shri for distinguished service in any field.
