New Delhi (LokSatya). President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday expressed grief over the deaths due to incidents related to heavy rains in Mumbai.
Modi announced Rs 2 lakh each from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) to the kin of each of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each to the injured.
Kovind tweeted, “Extremely saddened to hear about the loss of several people in accidents due to torrential rains in Chembur and Vikhroli, Mumbai. I extend my condolences to the bereaved families and wish them all success in the relief and rescue work.”
Modi tweeted, “Saddened by the loss of lives due to wall collapse in Mumbai’s Chembur and Vikhroli. My condolences to the bereaved families in this hour of grief. I pray for the speedy recovery of those injured.”
In another tweet, the Prime Minister announced, “Rs two lakh each from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund and Rs 50,000 each for the injured to the families of those who lost their lives in the collapse of the wall in Mumbai.”
At least 14 people were killed and many others are feared trapped in the landslides triggered by heavy rains in Mumbai’s Mahul and Vikhroli areas in Maharashtra on Sunday.
Officials said that the rescue operation is still on. Local train services have also been suspended in Mumbai due to waterlogging due to heavy rains.
