The department said that a cyclone was formed over the southeast Bay of Bengal off the coast of Sumatra.There is a strong wind area, due to which there is a possibility of rain in the states connected with the coast. Under its influence, there is a possibility of rain in northern areas like Chennai, Villupuram and Cuddalore, delta areas of Mayiladuthurai and Nagapattinam districts and Puducherry and Kariyakkal on Monday, the Meteorological Department said. He said that such areas may receive heavy rainfall, very heavy rainfall at isolated places and there is a possibility of lightning and thunderstorms. In a bulletin issued here, an official said that there may be rain in southern Madurai and other areas as well. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi and Tuticorin districts on November 9.

According to the IMD, there is a possibility of severe rain at a few places over North Coastal Tamil Nadu between November 11 and 12.
