Addressing an All India Congress Committee (AICC) event on Friday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi differentiated between Hinduism and Hindutva. He said, ‘We ask what is the difference between Hindutva and Hinduism? It is a simple argument – if you are a Hindu then why do you need Hindutva? Why do you need this new name?” Rahul Gandhi further said that “Is it Hinduism to beat Sikh or Muslim? That is exactly what Hindutva is. In which (Hindu) book is this written? I haven’t seen it. I have read the Upanishads. But I haven’t even read it there.” BJP has retaliated in the matter. Sambit Patra said that it is sad that Congress is making such statements on Hindutva.

Rahul Gandhi was associated online in the four-day All India Congress Committee program organized at Sevagram Ashram in Wardha. Addressing the event, Rahul Gandhi said that the ideology of the Congress party is like a “beautiful jewel”, which has an infinite power inside. But this BJP has dominated that.

“If crystallized, the ideology of Congress is alive and alive, which will surround the BJP and the RSS,” he told Congress representatives from across India via videoconferencing.

In the program, Rahul Gandhi further clarified the difference on Hindutva and Hinduism. He said, “Is it Hinduism to beat up a Sikh or a Muslim? Hindutva certainly is it. In which (Hindu) book is it written? I haven’t seen it. I have read the Upanishads. But I haven’t read it there either. Is.”

BJP retaliated on Rahul Gandhi’s statement. Sambit Patra said, “Salman Khurshid compares Boko Haram and ISIS to Hinduism. Shashi Tharoor says ‘Hindu Taliban’. Leaders like Digvijay Singh and Mani Shankar Aiyar use words like ‘saffron terrorism’ against Hinduism It is no coincidence. It is Rahul Gandhi who has taught others to make such statements against Hinduism.”
