India may not be able to meet the target of vaccination by December 31, but this feat will definitely happen.

India is unlikely to give both doses of the corona vaccine to all 94 million adults against Kovid-19 by the end of 2021. But the government will provide many vaccines for all of them. Let us tell you that so far more than 74 crore adults in the country have received only one dose of corona. Only 35 crore people have received the second dose. The total vaccination figure is more than 109 crores. About 188 million doses of the vaccine are required for all adults.

According to a report in News18, an official said, “The availability of the vaccine is not an issue. We have also started exporting. People have to come forward to get the vaccine. Such big states which are lagging, they need to do a lot more.” Let us tell you that the Center has already started ‘Har Ghar Dastak’ program for door-to-door vaccination.

Another senior official said that over 20 crore vaccines are already lying in the stock of states and private hospitals. He said, “Around 16 crore vaccines are in stock with the states. Another 4 to 5 crore vaccines are in stock of private hospitals. In all, after 109 crore vaccines have been given, a total of 130 crore doses have already been provided.”

Calculations show that around 54 crore doses are expected to arrive in November and December (44 crore for Covishield and 100 crore for Covaxin). Apart from this, vaccine stocks of Zydus Cadila and Biological E will also be available. To fully vaccinate all adults in India by December 31, 2021, 188 crore doses would be required.

The official said that no country has been able to achieve 100 per cent vaccination target. There was a difference of 84 days between the two doses of Covishield vaccine. So if India is able to give the first dose to the remaining 200 million people between now and December 31, they will have to wait until 2022 for their second dose.

Another senior government official said, “Work on the second dose will continue in 2022. But a substantial adult population, perhaps up to 90 percent, will get the first dose by the end of the year.” A third government official claimed that India will touch the 150 crore vaccination target by the end of 2021.
