Today marks five years of demonetisation. On the completion of five years of demonetisation, the Congress has raised questions about its success. Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday hit out at the central government on the occasion of completion of five years of demonetisation and questioned that if the move was successful then why corruption has not ended and terrorism has not hurt. Priyanka has called demonetisation a disaster.
Priyanka Gandhi tweeted, ‘If demonetisation was successful then why corruption has not ended? Why didn’t the black money come back? Why hasn’t the economy gone cashless? Why didn’t terrorism hurt? Why was inflation not controlled?
If demonetisation was successful then
Why hasn’t corruption ended?
Why didn’t the black money come back?
Why hasn’t the economy gone cashless?
Why didn’t terrorism hurt?
Why is inflation not controlled?#DemonetisationDisaster

Actually, on this day five years ago, PM Modi had announced demonetisation. This is the reason that the day of November 8 is recorded as a special day in the history of the country’s economy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the nation through Doordarshan at 8 pm on this day in 2016, announced the ban of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes.
This announcement of demonetisation came into effect from midnight on the same day. Due to this, there was an atmosphere of panic in the country for some days and there were long queues outside the banks. Later new notes of Rs 500 and Rs 2000 were issued. The government announced that it has taken this step to end the problem of black money and fake currency in the country.
