Although the third phase of the vaccination campaign in the war against the corona virus is required to be vaccinated for those older than 18 years from May 1, there are many states where this is not possible. After Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, now in Punjab, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the vaccination of all adults is being seen from May 1. In fact, it has been said on behalf of these states that they do not have adequate vaccine doses, so it is not possible to initiate vaccination. Earlier, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have also placed similar compulsions in front of the Center.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan said that vaccination to all adults in the state will not start from May 1, as there has not been sufficient supply of vaccines. In a video message on Thursday night, Chauhan said that vaccination in the state may begin from May 3. He also appealed to the people to exercise restraint.

Punjab Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu said on Thursday that we are not getting adequate doses of the vaccine. So we are facing a problem. We have a sufficient number of staff and other arrangements for vaccination. For vaccination, Serum Institute of India has ordered 30 lakh covisiled doses.

The Gujarat government said that it would start the third phase vaccination campaign only after adequate number of vaccines were received from the pharmaceutical companies. However, the registration process for vaccination of people between 18 years and 45 years has started in the state. The state ordered 10 million doses of Kovishield and 5 million doses of Kovaxine from Bharat Biotech.

Director General of Telangana Public Health G. Srinivasa Rao told the agency that the state government is in touch with the vaccine manufacturers, but there is no certainty as to when the stock will be available for vaccination. Rao said, we are looking for vaccines. We need about 40 million doses. There is no assurance of when the supply will be.


At the same time, according to a senior Andhra official, the state government had written a letter to the manufacturers to supply the vaccine and no confirmation has been received from them yet. He indicated that delay in vaccination is possible for people aged 18–44 years.

Meanwhile, a senior Maharashtra government official warned on Thursday that vaccination against Kovid-19 may have to be stopped for the next two days if adequate doses of the vaccine are not reached in Mumbai. Earlier on Wednesday, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope said that it is difficult to start the campaign from May 1 due to lack of vaccines.

Corona vaccination campaign for people between 18 and 44 years in Bihar will not start from May 1. Bihar Health Committee Executive Director Manoj Kumar said that the registration process will continue for those above 18, but they will not be able to determine the vaccination location and time only. This will start only after the vaccine becomes available. He informed that the Central Government will decide the quota of vaccines according to the population for the states.

Jharkhand Health Minister Banna Gupta has clearly stated that the vaccination of 18+ people in Jharkhand will not start from May 1. Because the state government does not have a vaccine for this. The minister said that preparations have been made to vaccinate people between 18 and 45 years for free. More than 2229 vaccination centers are ready. To buy the vaccine with their own money, the Government of Jharkhand has ordered 25–25 lakh vaccines to Bharat Biotech and Serum Institute, but the companies have expressed their inability to make the vaccine available before 15 May.
