A survey will now be conducted to find out how effective Covishield and covaxine are against the corona virus. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) will start the survey from next week to find out the effect of Kovishield and covicin vaccines of Kovid-19. In the meantime, the vaccine’s effectiveness in preventing covid infection from becoming serious will be investigated.
The Serum Institute of India (SII) is producing the covishield vaccine while Bharat Biotech is producing the covicin vaccine. Such a survey will be the first time since the introduction of these vaccines. However, it is important to know here that while the covicin vaccine was 81 per cent effective in the final trial, the coviciled vaccine was about 71 per cent effective.
According to Dr. Tarun Bhatnagar, senior scientist at ICMR’s National Institute of Epidemiology, the survey will review about 4,000 people over the age of 45 who have taken one or both doses of either of the two vaccines. Bhatnagar said that during the research, we will take people who are infected with corona virus and hospitalized and their vaccination status will be compared with those who have been free from infection.
He said that the aim is to find out how effective the vaccination is in preventing the disease from taking serious form. The scientist said that the survey is expected to begin next week. It is noteworthy that more than 200 million doses of Kovid-19 vaccine have been given so far since the commencement of vaccination campaign in the country.
