The CPI(M) has alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Hindutva forces are inciting sentiments against Muslims and spreading Islamophobia using Taliban occupation in Afghanistan. The Left party, in its mouthpiece ‘People’s Democracy’, has claimed that members of the community have been subjected to violence in the past few weeks.

The CPI(M) said, “The praise of Taliban by some hardline Muslim clerics has become an excuse for (Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi) Adityanath to make Taliban a hawk,” the mouthpiece further said. Every day violence against Muslims is showing a disturbing pattern. In the month of August, there have been at least four incidents of violence against Muslims in some small towns of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Poor Muslims and hawkers, auto rickshaw drivers and beggars have been targeted in these attacks.

The CPI(M) alleged that in all these attacks, videos are made and then circulated on social media. It appears to be aimed at promoting these acts of violence and glorifying the “heroism” of the attackers. “Such violence against poor Muslims who go to earn their livelihood is a symptom of the fascist activities of Hindutva organisations, while the governments of BJP ruled states and the central government are becoming more aggressive in implementing Hindutva agenda,” the party said. The mouthpiece said that the Taliban’s control in Afghanistan is being used as a golden opportunity to spread Islamofia.
