Gallantry medals to 20 ITBP personnel, along with the army in Galwan, gave a befitting reply to the Chinese soldiers

20 Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel have been awarded gallantry medals on the 75th anniversary of Independence Day. He fought shoulder to shoulder with the army to give a befitting reply to Chinese troops in eastern Ladakh’s Galwan Valley and Gogra Hot Springs during the conflict along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

A total of 630 security personnel, including 257 from Jammu and Kashmir Police, have been awarded medals for their bravery, the Union Home Ministry said on Saturday. Gallantry medals have been awarded to Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel for operations against terrorism and for law and order related work. So far, 152 medals have been given to Central Reserve Police Force personnel involved in anti-insurgency and anti-Naxal operations across the country.

ITBP spokesperson Vivek Pandey said that ITBP has received 23 gallantry medals, out of which 20 have been given for bravery during the clashes in Eastern Ladakh in May-June 2020. “This is the highest number of gallantry medals for the ITBP for the bravery of its jawans in border face-offs/ skirmishes/ border security duties,” Pandey said.

On June 15, 2020, 20 Indian soldiers were martyred in the Galwan Valley clash along the LAC. A large number of Chinese soldiers were also killed in this clash.

The ITBP officers who have been given these awards include Kishore Singh Bisht (Commandant), Rinku Thapa (Second Command), Sharat Kumar Tripathi (Deputy Commandant), Arbind Kumar Mahto, Akshay Ahuja, Pankaj Srivastava and Dharmendra Kumar Vishwakarma (Assistant Commandant).
