The discord in Punjab has not even subsided so far that factionalism within the Chhattisgarh Congress has intensified. As part of efforts to end this factionalism, former party president Rahul Gandhi held a meeting with Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and state Health Minister TS Singhdeo on Tuesday. Sources gave this information.
Congress sources said that Baghel and Singhdeo reached Rahul Gandhi’s residence 12 Tughlaq Lane on Tuesday morning. Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal and party’s Chhattisgarh affairs in-charge PL Poonia were also present during this meeting. Sources said that the Congress high command wants to end the factionalism within the party in Chhattisgarh soon and this meeting has taken place as part of this effort.
It is noteworthy that since the formation of the Congress government in Chhattisgarh in December 2018, the relationship between Chief Minister Baghel and Health Minister Singhdeo has not been smooth. Supporters of Singhdeo say that there was an agreement on the Chief Minister for two-and-a-half years and now Singhdeo should be made the Chief Minister, although the Congress high command has not given any indication of removing Baghel from the post of Chief Minister.
Recently, differences between the Baghel faction and the Singhdeo faction escalated when Congress MLA Brihaspati Singh accused Health Minister TS Singhdeo of wanting to become the chief minister by getting him assassinated. Brihaspati Singh is considered close to Chief Minister Baghel.
