Two lawyers have filed an application in the Supreme Court on Tuesday demanding a CBI probe into the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case in Uttar Pradesh. Eight people, including farmers and journalists, lost their lives in Sunday’s violence. The lawyers said the investigation should be done within a stipulated time frame and under the supervision of the apex court.
The petition has also sought a direction from the Supreme Court to the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Police Department to register an FIR and punish the ‘ministers’ involved in it.

Please inform that on the complaint of the farmers, an FIR has already been registered by the police. Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Mishra Teni’s son Ashish Mishra and others have been named in this FIR. Cases have been registered against them under murder, criminal conspiracy and 20 other charges.
However, the Union Minister has rubbished the claims of his son’s involvement in the violence saying that Ashish Mishra is ready to face any investigation in the case. The farmers allege that the protesters were deliberately crushed by the vehicle of the minister’s son.
