New Delhi, (Loksatya). In the midst of the growing havoc of Coronavirus, it has been allowed to start sports activities following the government guidelines but during this time it is very important to keep in mind that running or running practice wearing a mask can be dangerous. is.
Dr. Saranjit Singh, a fitness and sports medicine expert from Lucknow, believes that at present, running or exercising wearing a mask can not only be dangerous but can also be fatal. He cautioned that players who are returning to their training and those who are running for their fitness should not use masks while practicing. They believe that if you follow the guidelines and maintain social distance, there is no need to wear masks while running, jogging or exercising.
Dr. Saranjit said, "Doing any kind of physical exercise while wearing a mask can prove to be dangerous because doing so while wearing a mask upsets the balance of taking oxygen (oxyzen) and releasing carbon dioxide and has a direct impact on the body parts. Is. ”He said that two 14-year-old children were running with masks in a city in China that they died. Similarly, in Wuhan, a 26-year-old youth was running on the road with a mask and he also died.
Dr. Saranjit said, "It is a normal process that we take oxygen with the air and release carbon dioxide, but applying the mask blocks the normal flow of these important processes. When we exercise we need more oxygen and we produce more carbon dioxide and release it. But wearing a mask gets carbon dioxide trapped in it and we start taking it again and again, which increases the amount of carbon dioxide in the blood and decreases oxygen. ”
Dr. Singh said, "This affects the body parts and can cause dizziness and the person may become unconscious. It can also have an effect on the lungs and heart. In this case we start getting tired very quickly but we feel that we are getting tired due to practice. In such a situation, sweating becomes excessive and the mask becomes wet which makes it difficult to take oxygen. Death can also occur in this case. In this case, if the mask is placed, then it should be removed immediately. ”
He said that some players wear elevation training masks or altitude masks to enhance their performance. During the India-Australia series in 2017, some Indian cricketers wore such masks. Whether this increases performance is a matter of separate debate but he would not recommend using such masks.
Dr. Saranjeet said that while exercising in the gym, the mask should not be applied at all because it can be even more dangerous. He said that there is talk of opening a gym when it should not be opened as the person going to the gym uses all the equipment which can increase the risk of spreading the virus.
